Advance Your Acting Skills through Improv

A 4-Part Workshop Series with David James Hamilton – Saturdays, August 1, 8, 15 & 22 from 2:30 to 5:30 PM

Great acting isn’t just about knowing your lines. It’s about listening, reacting, committing fully to a character, and trusting your instincts in the moment. Those are the skills that separate a technically correct performance from one that’s truly alive.

Improv for Actors is a four-part workshop series designed to help actors at every level unlock new skills by exploring the fundamentals of improv comedy and applying them directly to scripted work. Whether you’re preparing for an audition, deepening your stage or screen practice, or just looking to shake loose and play, this series will give you tools you’ll use for the rest of your career.

Session 1: Fundamentals

Saturday, August 1 | 2:30–5:30 PM

We begin with the foundational principle of improv: Yes, And… — and explore how this single idea can transform the way you listen, respond, and communicate as an actor. You’ll leave with immediately applicable tools for stage, screen, and auditions.

Session 2: Characters

Saturday, August 8 | 2:30–5:30 PM

How do you build a believable character quickly and confidently? In this session, we explore the improv approach to character development — and how that same structure and confidence applies to the deeper character work of scripted acting.

Session 3: Emotions

Saturday, August 15 | 2:30–5:30 PM

The best performances don’t plan every feeling — they live inside the scene. This session focuses on emotional connection and making bold choices in the moment, helping actors stay present in their characters and trust their instincts.

Session 4: Putting It All Together

Saturday, August 22 | 2:30–5:30 PM

In the final session, we bring everything together, active listening, character, and emotional truth, and put it into action through long-form improv scene work. You’ll leave with new confidence in your ability to deliver scripted work that feels natural, present, and alive.
